Philanthropy is a wonderful way for NNGH to give back to our community. The main project we chose for this year is Special Pals. Founded in 1979, they are Houston’s longest running non-kill animal shelter. They are dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and re-homing animals, while advocating for a compassionate community through education and outreach.
Special Pals started as and continues to be a shelter with fostering, which frees up space within the shelter allowing more animals to be cared for.
Many shelters only take the puppies and the kittens but Special Pals believes in NO mother left behind. They nurture and rehabilitate sick animals and get them to be adoptable.
Special Pals emphasis is on offering the community healthcare with low cost animal clinics focusing on lifetime care. Their low cost wellness clinics served more than 2000 animals in 2024.
At Special Pals 88 cents of every dollar received goes to the rescue and care of animals. Special Pals is entirely funded from donations, adoption fees, fundraisers, and grants.
During the year we have voluntary collection jars on the tables at our monthly luncheons with all proceeds going to our charity. Just look for the paw prints.
Special Pals are located at 3830 Greenhouse Road in Katy, Texas. If you would like to learn more about Special Pals, you may go to specialpals.org.
